Who Cares

who cares whether I feel blue

if the stream shifts

and a flood bursts

nobody cares, not even you

or you’d be here to settle these tears

my heart is breaking

the bedposts crashing in

these are the days with faulty gears

sorrow and sadness hand in hand

can’t please anyone

don’t understand

this not scratched in my master plan

then I saw him on the road

his shell split open

tail quivering

he was alive in his abode

his head sparked straight up, eyes shut

broken in two

insides spilling out

a small turtle with a cracked hut

I echo, heart broken in two

the pain won’t subside

there’s nothing I can do

the stream continues to flow in lieu

This poem is meant to show that there are others worse off then me/you. Just when we think we have it so bad, there is someone or something feeling ten times worse.

I am a mother, retired foster mother, grandmother, and last, but not least, an author. I have self-published a children's book of rhymes, titled, A Rhyme In Time for ages five and up. I also wrote articles for Suite101, and had some short stories published in a local paper. At present, I am in a new phase in life once again. I hope to spend more time reading accompanied by Goodreads, write daily on my blog, and read other people's works of art. I also love photography and want to share some of my part of the world, along with travelling experiences.

  1. It does help to remind ourselves of this from time to time. Thanks for this. :o)

Powerful, Drew. What a great reminder. This was heartbreaking at the same time.

I remember the day quite well. Stopping to catch a glimpse of the turtle, I had no idea what I was about to see. I thought turtles had rather tough shells. The shell was cracked down the centre and you could see the insides. It was still alive. Had no idea what to do and in the middle of nowhere miles from a vet, all I could do was take a lesson from what I had witnessed. I imagine a semi-truck struck it, but who knows? Life is cruel to humans and God’s little creatures as well.
