Free To Be

she strolls

streamlets trickle

ahead of her

a heavenly glow

though alone

and somewhat frail

a portrait

of a younger, older woman

beaten by life

no longer

suffering from his moods

anger fits

her shoulders square

no longer clasped by chains

her clothing mimics

who she is in her visions

it doesn’t matter

what he thinks of her

she is free

to dress

in her stylish fashion

to listen

to French songs

to speak

her point of view

to touch

the hurting

to fix

the broken

I am a mother, retired foster mother, grandmother, and last, but not least, an author. I have self-published a children's book of rhymes, titled, A Rhyme In Time for ages five and up. I also wrote articles for Suite101, and had some short stories published in a local paper. At present, I am in a new phase in life once again. I hope to spend more time reading accompanied by Goodreads, write daily on my blog, and read other people's works of art. I also love photography and want to share some of my part of the world, along with travelling experiences.

  1. Reblogged this on little box of books and commented:
Wonderfully written and reflective of challenges being faced.

  2. This is such a touching poem and what a lovely photo to go with it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Not sure whether I thanked you for reading my poems. My head is spinning. Literally, I think. But got some good news today. My daughter’s case report looks clear. She had six small cancerous tumours in one breast, but in the other, everything they tested was benign. So excited about that. Thanks so much for thinking, praying and being there for me to cry upon your shoulder. One of the toughest things I’ve had to endure with one of my children.
